X Header Cut Off on iPhone? The Dynamic Island Fix

Why the top and lower-left of your 1500×500 X header disappear on an iPhone, the exact pixel zones to keep clear, and how to check before you upload.

On your Mac the header looks right. On your iPhone the top of your headline is gone, there is a black pill in the middle of your logo, and your face is sitting on the call to action. The file is fine. The X app on iPhone lays several pieces of the phone's own interface over the header, and they land in predictable places on a 1500 × 500 canvas.

The short answer

Keep the top 120 px clear, keep the left 330 px of the bottom half clear, and put your message in the middle band to the right of centre. The rest of this post explains where those numbers come from.

What covers the header on an iPhone

These figures come from the iPhone 16, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max profiles we render X headers on, converted back to pixels on the 1500 × 500 canvas you design.

  • Status bar: the full width, about the top 60 to 65 px. Time, signal and battery sit here.
  • Dynamic Island: a pill in the top centre, roughly x = 525 to 975 px and the top 110 to 120 px. It is solid black, so anything under it is simply gone.
  • Profile photo: a circle over the lower left, about x = 30 to 330 px, starting near y = 300 px and hanging below the bottom edge.

The header is also displayed at the width of the phone, around 400 points on a 6.1 inch iPhone. That is close to a quarter of your canvas, so thin type and small logos fade out before any overlay touches them.

The fix: a three-zone layout

  • Top band (y 0 to 120): background only. No words, no faces, no logo.
  • Lower left (x 0 to 330, y 300 to 500): reserved for your avatar. Colour or texture only.
  • Middle band, right of centre: your headline, logo or call to action. Something like x = 400 to 1450 and y = 140 to 440 is safe on every iPhone profile we test.

Right-aligned layouts survive best because they move the message away from the avatar. Centred layouts work if the text sits below the island rather than level with it.

Common mistakes

  • Centring a logo at the very top. That is exactly where the Dynamic Island sits.
  • A call to action in the bottom-left corner. The avatar covers it on every device, not only iPhone.
  • Type under about 36 px on the canvas. It renders near 10 px on a phone and becomes hard to read.
  • Designing on 1500 × 600 or other sizes. X rescales and crops to 3:1, moving everything you placed.

Check it before you upload

The free header checker renders your file on the iPhone profiles above, plus Pixel, iPad and desktop, and marks each overlay in place. Frequently asked questions

Why is my X header cut off on my iPhone?
On iPhone the header sits under the status bar and, on Pro and newer models, the Dynamic Island, so the top strip and top centre are hidden. Your round profile photo also covers the lower left, and the whole 1500 × 500 image is shown at about 400 points wide.
Which part of a 1500 × 500 X header does the Dynamic Island cover?
In our iPhone 16 profiles it covers roughly x = 525 to 975 px and the top 110 to 120 px of the canvas. The status bar takes about the top 60 to 65 px across the full width.
Where does the profile photo cover the X header?
The avatar circle covers roughly x = 30 to 330 px from y = 300 px down to the bottom edge of a 1500 × 500 canvas, and it overhangs below the header.
What size should an X header be?
1500 × 500 pixels, a 3:1 frame. Design on exactly that canvas so nothing shifts when X scales it.
Does this affect Android phones too?
Android phones have a status bar and often a camera punch-hole, so the top strip is also at risk, but the Dynamic Island pill is iPhone-specific. Keep text out of the top band either way.
